The Woodland Trust say:
"More than 32 hectares (79 acres) of ancient woodland in Kent may be lost forever if plans to quarry into Oaken Wood near Maidstone go ahead.
Many thanks to the thousands of you that helped us convince Secretary of State Eric Pickles to ‘call in’ the planning application for a public inquiry.
This is great news but does not mean that we’ve won.
The public inquiry starts very soon and we still need your help to continue the fight for this stunning area of local ancient woodland and the wildlife it supports.
We have been overwhelmed by your support so far, but costs are mounting and we need to raise over £75,000 to employ expert legal help during the public inquiry.
Help us fight for Oaken Wood. By sending a donation now you will be helping us to save a rich and irreplaceable habitat."
